Healing and restorative, this is transformative for those who have experienced loss or trauma, for gaining closure or marking and celebrating the mother’s passage after giving birth. During the ritual you will receive a full body massage with warm oils to nurture and sooth, releasing tension. You are then led into a dark and warm tent where I will bathe you with hot herbal water, warming the body in a profound way and re-enacting the Temaskal, the traditional Mexican sweat lodge, a space to allow any pain, grief or fear to rise to the surface and be released.
The tent is an intuitive and deeply personal experience, sometimes I will sing to you or guide you into an inward journey, other times I will offer silence, hold you or provide prayer. I never know what will come up in this space – only that it is an intimate and profound experience. The Temaskal is considered the womb of Mother Earth, where you travel inside to alchemise your pain into power and be reborn.
When you emerge, I will wrap you with towels and blankets and you will be able to rest and go through another series of warming and sweating. The final stage is the closing with rebozos. Your body will be firmly wrapped from head to feet.
Closing, containing and sustaining the body with the rebozos is deeply grounding, integrating a sense of wholeness and closing the body on every level after the opening experience of childbirth.
Words cannot do La Cerrada justice as the power and emotional enormity of the experience is unique for every woman. Opening the mother physically, spiritually, and energetically, nurturing and re-filling – releasing her, healing her and holding her.
Here we honour the mother, offering a rebirth, an ending and a beginning.
